Director, R&D Engineering Oakley / EssilorLuxottica San Clemente, California, United States
As a professional engineer, your personal hobbies and passions can and should continue to grow with you. Unfortunately, many feel our personal passions must take a hiatus so we can take our careers “seriously”. Join two mid-career professionals for an interactive discussion about balancing and enhancing both your personal and professional passions, and how you can leverage them to advance your career. Speakers will share real examples and approaches to make time to pursue passions that were completely unrelated to their career, and those that were (including sailing, snowboarding, and mountain biking). The speakers will share specific tips for talking about your passions at career fairs and interviews, using your passions to accelerate career growth, and seeking companies and roles that enable a full passion-fueled life.
Learning Objectives:
Leverage passions and hobbies for technical career growth in skill development, differentiation, and storytelling.
Explain how skills developed outside of work enhance your value as an employee, in both passion-related and unrelated fields.
Evaluate and interview potential employers with time for hobbies and passions in mind.
