Hydrogen Analyst Nicor Gas/Southern Company Gas Naperville, Illinois, United States
In 2023, the Department of Energy (DOE) announced the selection of seven hydrogen hubs - hydrogen projects across the country that will bring about the beginning of the clean hydrogen economy. Nicor Gas, a Southern Company Gas utility, is a member of the Midwest Hydrogen Hub, also known as the Midwest Alliance for Clean Hydrogen (MachH2) hub. It is estimated that the amount of CO2 emissions that will be avoided through the implementation of the MachH2 hydrogen hub is 3.9 million metric tons annually. This is the equivalent of taking 867,000 gas-powered vehicles off the road, according to the DOE. This Snap Session will describe Nicor's involvement in the MachH2 project and how it is a vital step towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
Learning Objectives:
Explain the potential impact of the hydrogen hub implementation on emissions reduction.
Describe how the hydrogen hub projects contribute to energy sustainability.
