Decarbonizing heavy industries remains an important goal of energy transition initiatives worldwide. The cement industry has one of the highest carbon footprints on the planet. Furthermore, increased urbanization is raising the demand for cement. To meet the urgency of the world’s climate challenges, the decarbonization of the cement industry must be accelerated.
There are several different ways to reduce the carbon intensity of the cement and lime industry, including optimized carbon capture solutions for air fired, oxyfuel, and oxygen enriched applications. In this session, we will discuss some of the major challenges facing this sector and the novel solutions developed to address them.
Learning Objectives:
Describe why decarbonization is important.
Explain the challenges in decarbonizing heavy industries, especially cement.
Outline how to capture carbon dioxide from a cement facility, including recent innovations.
