Salary negotiation is an often intimidating and uncomfortable process, but does it have to be that way? The reluctance to negotiate can have lasting implications to personal finance as well as further perpetuate the gender pay gap. Many employees know they have earned a raise but do not know how to go about starting the conversation. Using concrete examples from Babcock and Laschever's book Women Don't Ask, this session will explore the reasons women often do not even make it to the negotiation table and what they should ask for when they do. Advocating for fair compensation brings about personal financial and career growth that may not be possible without simply asking and starting with "I Earned It."
Learning Objectives:
Describe the gender divide when it comes to negotiating salary.
Explain the right time to ask for a salary adjustment.
Discuss salary negotiation strategies and techniques.
