Dr. Valerie Maier-Speredelozzi is a faculty member in the Department of Mechanical, Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Rhode Island. Her teaching and research areas have included applying lean manufacturing to service industries, sustainable manufacturing, and most recently, human factors for applications in submarine manufacturing and operations. Dr. Maier-Speredelozzi has extensive experience in K-12 outreach, advising, and student mentoring, including serving as the major advisor for more than 30 graduate students over the past 20 years. Dr. Maier-Speredelozzi has currently funded projects from the National Institute for Undersea Vehicle Technology (NIUVT) and the DoD National Defense Education Program to co-lead the UConn-URI Navy STEM Coalition. Dr. Maier-Speredelozzi is a life member of Society of Women Engineers and the advisor of the URI collegiate section. In her personal life, she is married with 5 children, both biological and adopted, most of whom are now young adults.
