Jan Williams is a Fellow of SWE, retired from a 35-year career at a national security laboratory in New Mexico. She is heavily involved in local and federal STEM advocacy and has attended SWE’s Capitol Hill Day many times. She is active in the LCR AG, currently working with their Legends group to improve the public information available about women in science and engineering. She serves as a mentor to officers in the Central New Mexico section and often volunteers for local outreach events. She holds a BSME from the University of Missouri, KC and an MSCE from the University of New Mexico. She was awarded SWE’s Distinguished Service Award in 2017. In her leisure time she swims, travels with her husband, and reads historical fiction. Her latest favorite genre is historical fiction about women with accomplishments in science and engineering who were not fully recognized for their contributions.
