Beth McGinnis-Cavanaugh (she/her/hers) is an award-winning community college engineering educator, researcher, and advocate. She is Professor of Engineering and Physical Sciences at Springfield Technical Community College (STCC), where she teaches courses in engineering mechanics, physics, and structures. She holds a B.S. and M.S. in Civil (Structural) Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. With 20 years of experience educating diverse and underrepresented students, Beth excels at strategies to recruit, retain, and promote diversity in engineering and design innovative learning environments.
Herself a community college graduate, Beth’s journey fuels her advocacy for community college students as critical for STEM equity and diversity. She presents and publishes about community college STEM pathways and nontraditional, nonlinear STEM pathways. Creating communities that value and leverage the intersectional experiences of community college women in engineering is a cornerstone of her work.
