Jennifer Bastiaan received her B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the General Motors Institute, and her Ph.D. in Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering from the University of Waterloo. She is an Associate Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Kettering University in Flint, Michigan, where she is focused on teaching and research in ground vehicle systems. She is a veteran of the United States automotive industry with experience in modeling and physical testing programs. Her primary research interests are vehicle dynamics and tire mechanics. Jennifer is a member of five professional organizations including the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). She has been involved in the SWE Girls Engineering Exploration (GEE) outreach program sponsored by SWE Detroit, creating engaging engineering activities for elementary school girls. At Kettering University, she serves as faculty advisor to the Formula SAE Internal Combustion and Electric teams and faculty co-advisor to four other student competition teams.
