Dr. Whitis joined GE Aerospace after a B.S.M.E. from University of Illinois, and an M.S.M.E. from MIT. While at GE, she received an M.S. in Materials Science from the University of Cincinnati, and a Ph.D. in Materials Science from the University of Virginia. She has held roles in Material Development, Systems Engineering, Component Design, Stress Analysis, Life Management, and Additive Manufacturing. In 2019 she became the first female Executive Chief Consulting Engineer for GE Aerospace.
Dr. Whitis was the Outreach Director of her University of Illinois Collegiate Section, and has been involved in STEM outreach throughout her various roles in industry. She is currently the co-chair of the SWE Technical Career Path Affinity Group, which strives to be a guiding light for technical career path growth, working in tandem with SWE committees and other affinity groups, and provide support and networking for SWE members focused on a technical career path.
