Dr. Susan Rea Peterson is Vice President of Research and Development at Shockwave Medical, Inc. She has a B.S.E. in chemical engineering from Princeton University as well as a Ph.D. and Postdoctoral Fellowship from Cambridge University, which she attended as a Marshall Scholar, and was recognized as a 2013 SWE Emerging Leader. She has worked for over 20 years on new treatments for cardiovascular disease, authoring 17 publications in international peer-reviewed journals, 21 presentations at internal conferences, 9 presentations at external conferences including an invited talk at the 2017 Society for Biomaterials thought leaders session and 10 granted U.S. patents. She has also been involved in STEM outreach throughout this time, both through SWE and in parallel organizations. Dr. Peterson is a strong advocate for women in science and engineering, the mother of three wonderfully inquisitive children and excited to share her knowledge with others.
