Senior Principal Scientist
Saint-Gobain
Northborough, Massachusetts, United States
Dr. Kristin Breder has a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, and a Masters Degree in Physics Engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. She is currently a Senior Principal Scientist at Saint-Gobain Research North America. She has 30 years of experience in three different countries, leading research teams with focus on materials research and failure analysis. To be heard and respected in this highly male dominated field, she has a direct and factual communication style. As a leader she has a collaborative management style, respectful of the team’s different backgrounds, and expectations that it is the outcome that counts, not necessarily how that was achieved. Throughout her career she has formally and informally mentored women engineers and scientists and see it as very important to be a visible role model for younger engineers.
