Shelly Vaziri Flais, MD, FAAP, is a practicing pediatrician, mother of 4, author, and an assistant professor of clinical pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. In addition to her clinical practice and faculty responsibilities, she has authored several parenting books with the American Academy of Pediatrics and serves as an AAP spokesperson. Her newest book with the AAP, Nurturing Boys to Be Better Men; Gender Equality Starts at Home, was released October 2023. Her other titles include Raising Twins (now in its 3rd edition), Caring for your School Aged Child, and The Big Book of Symptoms. Dr. Flais serves on the med school alumni board as the co-chair for the Women in Medicine committee. Her 4 children are now young adults; all 4 are pursuing engineering or already in the engineering workforce, and have served as her greatest teachers, authenticating her reality-based parenting approach.
