Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering PhD Student
The University of Notre Dame
South Bend, Indiana, United States
Piper Halcrow is a PhD student in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Notre Dame. She graduated with Honors from Carson-Newman University in 2023 with her BS in Applied Physics and Communication Studies. In undergrad, Halcrow played NCAA Beach Volleyball, where she won awards and represented her team in NCAA legislation decisions. She also held leadership roles in three honor societies, tutored STEM courses, and volunteered – while writing her engineering thesis. These experiences were the foundation of her transition to graduate school. At Notre Dame, Halcrow conducts computational research in radiation transport led by Dr. Ryan McClarren. Her research aims to investigate the behavior of neutrons and strongly coupled plasmas near the transition from radiation dominated to electron dominated heat transport to determine the temperature at the crust-core boundary. Halcrow also recently interned at NASA as a software engineer, debugging, testing, and coding a launch control system.
