Mentoring is a powerful vehicle that extends our impact far beyond our individual reach. Through mentoring, we can create a pipeline of engineers, and help them to pursue, persist, and thrive in their careers. As we create this pipeline and support engineers, we can be instrumental in building a robust workforce for companies. As companies leverage skilled engineers, they can develop their businesses and create solutions to society’s challenges.
The purpose of this session is to inspire you to become a mentor. It is especially important to mentor women because we are underrepresented in engineering fields. When women become engineers, families are more financially secure and they are empowered to create generational wealth. As we close the gap between numbers of men and women engineers, there will be more engineers available to do the critical work needed across key industries – food, energy, medicine, information and climate.
Learning Objectives:
Explain the impact of the STEM gender gap on women and industry.
List two or three organizations that sponsor mentoring programs.
