In a globalized world, the workplace can bring together people from a variety of backgrounds, including from different faiths. Religion is a core part of many people’s identities and lifestyles. But what happens when aspects of the working lifestyle don’t integrate with your beliefs? As a Muslim woman, the speaker seeks to share her learning experiences of navigating the incorporation of her religious beliefs into a workplace setting. This has included seeking accommodations for prayers, holidays, observances, among other things which have not always been simple to obtain. Religion is an extension of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEI&B) that sometimes can get overlooked. The learnings from this session will be applicable to people of all faiths and spiritual backgrounds. For managers and allies, this discussion will also cover how to ensure the workplace is being inclusive to people of all faiths.
Learning Objectives:
Identify the challenges of practicing religion in the workplace.
Develop diversity and inclusion initiatives that advocate for religious accommodations, respect, and visibility.
