Author Amy Westervelt famously said “we expect women to work like they don’t have children and raise children like they don’t work.” This statement succinctly captures the intricate balancing act women undertake, navigating their roles as full-time employees, devoted mothers, supportive spouses, dutiful children, the list goes on. In the relentless pursuit of fulfilling these responsibilities, women find themselves relegated to the bottom of their own priority list, neglecting their well-being in the process. This self-neglect frequently leads to burnout, accompanied by a slew of physical and mental health challenges, stemming from stress and anxiety. In this talk, I aim to explore the profound importance of prioritizing oneself, what that prioritization entails, and illuminate how it can elevate overall happiness and self-esteem. By refilling one’s own cup, women not only enhance their own well-being but also cultivate the capacity to effectively support and nurture others within their spheres of influence.
Learning Objectives:
Describe how self-prioritization leads to overall well-being of not only oneself but also others.
Explain how a lack of self-care is leading to a slew of physical and mental health issues for women.
