The Bat-Signal is a distress beacon used by the Gotham City Police to help summon Batman in times of need. For those out sick unexpectedly due to disability, developing a personal Bat-Signal can be a lifeline in communicating unplanned absences and managing their scope and critical work through those absences. The purpose of this session is to help identify how a Bat-Signal can be useful, how tasks can be delegated effectively with the Bat-Signal, critical information that should be communicated alongside the signal, and what to do if you are summoned by a Bat-Signal. Lastly, we will brainstorm and discuss ways in which employees, coworkers, managers, and leaders can support a team member who needs to use a Bat-Signal to communicate and delegate work while out sick unexpectedly.
Learning Objectives:
Describe what a Bat-Signal is and how it can be used by individuals to effectively manage their scope through unplanned or unexpected absences.
Identify what tasks should or shouldn't be delegated, critical information to communicate with the Bat-Signal in order to effectively delegate, and how to establish precedents for coverage.
Brainstorm and discuss ways employees, coworkers, managers, and leaders can support a team member who needs to use a Bat-Signal to communicate and delegate work while out sick unexpectedly.
