The “glass cliff effect” describes a real-world phenomenon in which women are more likely to be appointed to precarious leadership positions in poorly performing organizations, while men are more likely to be appointed to stable leadership positions in successful organizations. In 2005, a research study explored the effects of subtle, yet dangerous, form of gender discrimination that may limit workplace diversity as well as women’s ability to become successful leaders (Ryan & Haslam, 2005). Nearly 20 years later, we continue to see disparity in advancement into key leadership roles with only 10% of female CEOs leading Fortune 500 companies.
This workshop explores the implications of organizational structures regarding gender and leadership in the workplace while providing tips and lessons learned from the prospective of a woman in senior management striving to achieve her ultimate career goal and advancement to the C-Suite.
