The transition from high school to university is a crucial topic amongst first-generation students and their families. Studies show providing support for these students is beneficial while in school, but what happens after graduating from university? These first generation college students are often first-generation professionals (FGPs), and the transition from college to the work force can be just as or more difficult than that collegiate transition. Join two Stantec FGPs as we discuss our career journey and what we’ve learned along our path, including: finances, socializing in the professional setting, and following your interests post-college. In this lecture, we will identify some of the workplace challenges FGPs will likely encounter, how to bring your whole self to work as a FGP, and brainstorm action plans you can implement to start your first job on the best foot.
